Metaphysics: Psychical research (Concise Oxford Dictionary).
Metaphysics is a branch of philosophy that deals with the first principle of things including abstract concepts such as being, knowing and identity.
Metaphysics attempts to clarify the fundamental notions by which people understand the world. E.g. existence, cause and effect, space and time. A central branch of metaphysics is cosmology, a study of the origin and fundamental structure of the dynamics of the universe. (Wikipedia)
Metaphysical teachings enable individuals to view life and their worlds from a different perspective, one that is broadening and meaningful. Florence Scovel Shinn was a gifted metaphysician and lecturer who helped thousands of people solve problems by applying metaphysics to their lives. In 1925 she wrote the profound and significant book titled – The Game of Life & How to Play It – and copies can still be purchased. The opening sentence of this book says: “Most people consider life a battle, but it is not a battle, it is a game.” She then writes about how best to play the game of life using metaphysical and spiritual principals.
Many other authors and spiritual teachers incorporate successfully into their lives metaphysical teachings.
My work and philosophy of life has a metaphysical, astrological, spiritual and esoteric base and Florence Scovel Shinn’s books are a treasured part of my library. I am so grateful for her insightful exercises and words of wisdom.
