The Element of Earth
In my mind, this natural element cannot be separated from our physical planet – Earth, that, in some cultures used to be called Terra, or Gaia.
It is where we are born, live, work and die. Why did we incarnate here?
In my Astrology book – Volume One of Your Recipe for Empowerment – through Spiritual Astrology, I write:
I understand we incarnate for two reasons as:
- As souls, to work out our karma, i.e. unfinished business we have brought in from the past.
- To serve human and planetary evolution. The more we are able to consciously work with our Higher Self through the positive qualities of our Ascendant sign, the quicker we can evolve and so manifest the energies enabling us to fulfil our soul’s purpose. (Page 117)
On page 121, I write: “Earth represents stability, our ability to be grounded; our materialistic nature, our practicality, common sense and physical survival. The attitudes of earth are cautious and reliable. People with strong earth element in their make-up – as evidenced in their birth charts, need to concretise their plans, get tangible results, and build solid structures. Some key words relative to earth are: Solid, stable, permanency, stamina, endurance, practical, hard-working, productive, dependable, structured and realistic.
Also, use the appropriate key words for the earth signs of Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn. Earth represents all that is solid in our bodies – i.e. our bones, teeth, skeletal form and nails (Capricorn). Earth rules the sense of smell (Taurus) and the organ associated with it is the nose.
Should you have balanced earth, you will exhibit patience and steadiness, and have a practical value system. You will seldom be affected by excessive emotions or idealism. You will be able to structure your life well, being purposeful and stable.
Too much earth: sluggish, lethargic, inactive and overly concerned with material survival and monetary security. You could be heavy and slow to perceive new ideas. You’re likely to be stubborn and resistant to change. The elemental treatments to correct the situation are Fire and Air. Try wearing hot colours and eating hot and spicy foods. Regular strong exercise is needed as is constant mental stimulation.
Too little earth: You lack ability to manifest what you visualise. Unstable, and unable to enlist the support of others you have difficulty in actualising your potential. You may not want to see that your habits and attitudes betray your aspirations. Unlikely to be grounded, you are unable to concretise your plans. You need to learn to create form and structure, to be practical and manifest your needs. Unfortunately, you will learn your life lessons the hard way unless and until you consciously change.This awakening process will require time, effort, self-observation and analysis – without judgement. (Virgo)”.
To live well and thrive on our precious planet we, in the western world, have been taught we need to live by societal and religious structures – the rules and regulations initially created to support us through the creation of order and stability.
The indigenous people created different structures. Their structures lasted for hundreds of thousands of years. No matter the culture, the structures lasted.
Societal and religious structures in our western world are collapsing. Control, rather than consensus rules them. Greed and power by a few rule the masses.”
Why not review the above information regarding mother Nature’s elements to see what you can do to harmonise the situations currently besieging Earth.
When each of us have become aware of, taken responsibility for, and self- corrected any weakened elemental psychology (through a new found light of higher consciousness) -we naturally share it through our energetic emissions. This is the way spiritual light is spreading.

On 15/03/25, transiting Mercury turns retrograde in the sign of Aries – at 9 degrees 35 mins. Dancing beside Venus, also retrograde in Aries at a similar degree, these two planetary influences provide feel good new ideas. If the new idea works for you it would be wise to action it. Be attentive to detail because a slow down or change related to the idea could occur when Mercury turns retrograde. Remember a universal axiom: Clarity leads to power.
