History repeats! Cycles repeat and Pluto’s cycle is 248 years. When Pluto leaves a sign or a house according to the astrological model, something has been transformed relating to the themes of that sign or house. Reflect on the past twelve years when Pluto was moving through Sagittarius. Sagittarius rules such themes as truth, belief, spiritual growth and religion. So many of the hidden and dark secrets of the Catholic Church were uncovered and truth revealed itself for all to see during this time. The truth of sexually abusive acts against children by priests couldn’t be ignored any longer. Religious bigotry was rampant as countries went to war and killed each other in the name of their God. New Age spirituality created a huge tsunami wave of enlightened concepts and beliefs. Mary Magdalen became the new Goddess and was accepted by millions as an equal counterpart to Jesus when the truth of her role became known. And now, with Pluto in Capricorn the transformation will occur around business, world economics and governmental structures. We have already seen the collapse of two major US financial institutions with the first ingress of Pluto to this sign.
There has been much written about this transit and more is to come. I felt the urge to write my “take” on the themes to be encountered as I was born when Pluto was in Cancer, the opposing sign to Capricorn. I was brought up following the depression, before WW11. I know what it was like to experience societal collapse and the aftermath of a Wall Street crash. Survival was the name of the game then and is still for so many millions on our planet. I remember ration coupons, queues for food and jobs, American soldiers as home borders and not being able to buy chocolate! Australia was lucky to escape most of the devastation of that time.
Fear of survival is still running rampant in the consciousness of many. Will there be enough food to feed the increasing numbers of homeless and starving people? Will there be sufficient clean drinking water? What better systems can be implemented for more efficient distribution of these necessary and vital resources? Will we be able to breathe clean air?
Pluto entered Cancer in 1912 and organized crime became a stronghold during the following years. Pluto was discovered on February 18th 1930, a time when the world was in upheaval and the development of the atomic bomb was forging ahead.
Pluto’s energy can be likened to an atom bomb. Think of the devastation and destruction caused by the bomb and the aftermath that follows. Something dies before renewal and rebirth takes place. These are themes of Pluto.
Pluto was last in the cardinal sign of Capricorn from 1762 to 1778. USA was birthed in 1770 and that superpower seems to be economically in its death throws as it has allowed China to purchase its debt. This began in 1971 with Pluto entering Libra, the third cardinal sign, in challenging aspect to Cancer and Capricorn. China now owns enough of the US Treasury to vote “no” and this “no” vote has the power to influence market dynamics. There is much going on “behind the scenes”
in China. Worldwide resilience will be needed to handle this transit especially if the US market collapses and goes into depression. What then will happen to the rest of the world? New societal systems, structures and forms will need to be built and many lifestyles will have to change.
In China the family, a theme of Cancer, is the major point of life and yet there are 40% more males than females. How then will the men be able to continue their family line? What measures will they take to do so?
The interesting part of this transit that really excites me is the likelihood of archaeologists digging up many old cities, temples and relics from ancient civilizations. Our view of history is likely to undergo a huge metamorphosis and humanity will need to seriously reconsider its roots in the light of new evidence. I believe much of the emergence of a new view of human evolution will take place in the Andean mountains of Peru and Bolivia, two countries I regularly visit to conduct retreats and archaeological research.
Let’s look at Pluto in Capricorn on a personal level. As individual consciousness affects the collective it is wise to develop self-understanding of the influential energetic dynamics of Pluto moving through your birth chart. Astrologically Pluto rules the evolution of the soul according to astrologer Jeffrey Wolf Green, and I agree with his in-depth perspective. Why not check out the area of life, the house in your birth chart, that transiting Pluto is currently energizing for you? The themes of that house and its house polarity will definitely be transformed during the next sixteen years. Reflect on the past twelve years and become aware of the area of your life that has been transformed, where old aspects of yourself had to “die” in order for a new and metamorphosed truthful self to emerge. It would be wise to ask your self a Sagittarius question –“Am I now living my life in total truth, ethics, integrity and belief in myself?” And now a Capricorn question “Am I willing to take responsibility for myself and the life I have created?” Your honest answer and subsequent appropriate positive action will determine your experience of the next sixteen years.
During this powerful Pluto in Capricorn transit your career, business pursuits; economic status and life direction is likely to undergo a metamorphosis.
The old order and comfort zone structures upon which you rest and feel secure could collapse to enable evolutionary purpose. Turmoil seems to be the way humans choose to evolve. It doesn’t have to be the case if you are willing to become conscious and self-aware. If the lessons of Pluto in Sagittarius have been learned well this transit is likely to bring success to your business and career ambitions and your status within your family unit, especially if you are willing to let go of control and attachment to outcomes.
There is always much to release under a Pluto transit. Pluto can penetrate into and uncover the deepest most secret psychological patterns that have been controlling your life and dictating your behaviour for life times. Letting go of outworn values and perspectives is necessary in order for renewal. This does not have to be hard.
I’ve learned to embrace a Pluto transit with a sincere desire to transform and let go of all that is no longer needed for my evolutionary purpose. “Thy Will not Mine” is a mantra I find most useful. My soul knows what is best for me, not my limited personality self. After all, the main goal of the soul is evolutionary growth. A transformation from the darkness of ignorance into the light of higher consciousness and greater self-awareness is a function of a Pluto transit.
May you allow the Force of Light within you to guide and enhance your life.
