Saturn in Virgo - Where has Play Time Gone?
Ashtara
HARD WORK! Who wants to hear these words? However, these are the two key words that come immediately to mind as I begin this article.
Currently, transiting Saturn is preparing to end its passage through the sign of creative Leo. Leo is a fire sign, so over the past two years we have experienced the energy of creative inspiration.
Some of us have utilized these fiery impulses to identify, examine and establish our heart-based creative pursuits and manner of creative self-expression.
We are likely to have experienced, or are still experiencing, temporary delays in accessing the full positive force of our creative outpourings due to old psychological issues based on the themes of rejection, pride, arrogance, recognition, approval and the need to be centre of attention. An inflated egoic drive for societal recognition and approval may have been sought during this time period in order to appease the urges of our inner child, who may feel unloved and unappreciated.
Rewards and progress cannot manifest until a correction to our perception and manner of expression takes place.
You may still be unconscious of these shadow games, so continue to play them out dysfunctionally with gay abandon, damaging yourself and others in the process. Through unconscious abuse of this cosmic force some people may even have created a serious illness in order to get attention, love and recognition. Many emotional fiery outbursts may have been part of this drama especially when you couldn’t get your own way!
None of us like to face that fact that we display arrogance, egoic pride and childish behaviour and/or that we have a great desire for recognition and approval. Some of us fear rejection so deeply we are unwilling to look to cause. It hurts to accept the truth of our behaviour. However it will hurt us much more if we do not.
Saturn is a hard taskmaster. Once we accept the truth of our psychological games we then have a choice. We can continue to play the same games and receive the same results, or choose to change our game play. Maturity develops when we choose to change.
During the past two years Saturn will have provided us with many tests and lessons around the above themes. Now that this planet is moving towards the final degree of Leo some of these themes are being intensified. I have already written much about this transit, as it is such an important one. You may care to review these articles.
These Leo issues may have manifested through issues with our children, primary partners, parents, work, career, family or friends, depending on the area of your life transiting Saturn was moving through in your birth chart. There is still time to face and work through these specific emotional themes and upsets. Do you have the courage to do so? Courage is another Leo key word. You are the one who needs to change, as you are the one feeling the burden and the results of your psychological games. Blaming others will not work. Re-examining your personal mode of self-expression, and taking full responsibility for your creations, will. This is necessary so that a more solid and loving foundation is created. This may require humility, another Leo theme.
In order for this Saturn in Leo transit to end well it is of paramount importance to take personal responsibility for all we create, feel and achieve in our life, including the manner in which we express ourselves to others. Our external world will reflect where we are at in our current evolution of consciousness relating to this theme.
If you reflect upon the past two years, since mid July 2005, you will realize you have been experiencing a re-structuring, re-building and re-framing of some aspect of your creative self-expression. Should you have been working with this energy responsibly, with self-awareness and love, then, for the next two and a half years transiting Saturn’s visit through Virgo will result in the solidification and a progression of your creative outpourings.
When transiting Saturn enters Virgo on 3rd September 2007 the themes and issues change. Now it is hard work time! You think you have been working hard? Wait until this next transit! Some delegation may be necessary as well as a re-evaluation and re-structuring of the way you work. So, what will we learn about ourselves during this time period? What experiences will we have?
Issues and themes to do with criticism and judgements can emerge very early in the transit. How well do you handle criticism? Do you attract it, through the universal Law of Attraction, because you criticize yourself for perceived imperfections? Do you dish it out freely to others?
Everything in our life is cyclic and the transiting planets have their own specific cycles. Saturn’s cycle is approximately 29 – 30 years. So, in order to get a handle on the themes I’m likely to experience through 2008 - 2010 I reflect on Saturn’s last transit through Virgo, from late 1977 until September 1980. For those of you who are also of an age to reflect upon those years in your life you might choose to ask yourselves the question “What was going on in my life during that time and what were my major learning experiences? What were the main themes and issues associated with that time period?”
I’ll give you an example of mine to aid your reflection process: In 1976, when transiting Saturn was moving towards the final degrees of creative Leo, I left my home in far north Queensland to move to the Gold Coast. The primary purpose of this major life re-structuring process was to create a new business based on the knowledge I had gained in a particular field of endeavour. I opened an upmarket jewellery store in the centre of the main tourist strip of Surfers Paradise. Over the next two and a half years I experienced the hard work associated with making that business work successfully. However, it didn’t seem like hard work because I enjoyed it so much.
This time around, 30 years later, I’ve recently begun the process of creating a new business based on my astrological knowledge, writing and teaching experience. During the past two years I have re-written four astrology workbooks and three totally new ones. These books, and those to come, form the basis for a new business that utilizes the world-wide web. So, looking into the future over the next two and a half years, and basing my personal forecast on the previous Saturn cycle, I know I will need to discipline myself to create the time and the structure necessary to build the new business into a practical, workable and successful one. I will need to be organized, ordered, efficient and effective, all Virgo characteristics. If my last business venture is anything to go on this new one will be extremely successful. Like all new businesses it will take time to set up because it needs a solid foundation.
For those who are not of an age to reflect back to 30 years ago, you will see a similar theme occurring in your life 14 years ago - 1993. This is when transiting Saturn was moving from Aquarius to Pisces, the opposite signs to Leo and Virgo. Should you choose to do this reflection exercise you will soon realize that we experience life in cycles, determined by cosmic forces.
Saturn is very earthy, as is Virgo. Both require practicality, precision, effectiveness, discrimination and attention to detail. Virgo is opposite the water sign of Pisces. Water is the element that rules our feelings and emotions. Therefore, confusion, addictive emotional escape patterns and depression can emerge from our watery depths to cloud our mind when we become upset. Virgo doesn’t like that behaviour at all. It wants to get on with the job! It can’t operate at full capacity under foggy conditions. The cloudy and veiled emotional undercurrents will need to be handled as they arise, otherwise they will sabotage the work effort.
I decide to check out what I wrote about this transit in one of my recently published astrology workbooks, Volume Three, Your Recipe for Empowerment through Spiritual Astrology. The following is an excerpt.
There will be much work to do, however you will feel like doing it. My motto now is “Work smarter, not harder”!
Your work will be highlighted as well as your health; however you will only suffer ill health if you have not been doing the inner mental and emotional work demanded by Saturn.
You will need to conserve, rather than scatter your energies under this transit. You need to be efficient and effective in your daily life and with your work. It would be wise to have a health check-up and also have your teeth inspected. It is a very good time to learn about your body and to experience it as a wonderful tool for consciousness-raising.
Under this transit you may become aware of nausea in your stomach from time to time and it can be a great guide to teaching you where you are at in your consciousness development. Our stomach is our best brain as it tells us the truth. So if you experience nausea it can indicate you are unable to digest new thoughts/ideas/new concepts. It can also show when you are resistant to higher perspectives and shifts in consciousness. I often have a stomach lurch as I become illuminated to a broader self-understanding. My stomach registers the truth and is digesting it.
Your effectiveness could be tested now. If you are not yet aware and consciously dealing with your personal negativity you could have problems with authority figures, especially at work. You will need to demonstrate your own authority and express yourself honestly to your employer or those in your employ. You will need to state your personal boundaries and overcome any fears you have around this.
Virgo rules the themes of healing, natural health and the health of our physical body. It also rules the themes of purity, perfection and cleanliness.
Fourteen years ago I chose to work hard on myself, through the study and application of astrology, metaphysics and esoteric psychology to my life, to develop greater inner purity and cleanliness. I chose to heal myself of dense psychological garbage through a variety of natural healing modalities such as past life-regression and re-birthing. The results of that hard work and concentrated and dedicated effort are evident. I have never been happier and I experience excellent health.
Without good health we cannot operate effectively in our lives. Under this transit you may be challenged to learn soul lessons through ill health. It’s best to be aware and make appropriate corrections in advance. Self-assessment through self-analysis would be wise.
Fortunately most medical practitioners recognize the value of natural, healthy food, exercise, clean air and regular exercise. They are also accepting the fact that mental and emotional issues cause most of the health problems in the physical body. Once we take responsibility for, and address our underlying psychological issues, our health improves. Astrology is the most precise and accurate tool for identifying self-sabotaging psychological themes that lead to ill health and disease.
Saturn is the archetypal Taskmaster. I often liken this energy to the biblical St. Peter at the symbolic Pearly Gates – hands on hips saying “No, my son/daughter, the time is not yet right for you to enter the Kingdom of Heaven, there is more soul work for you to do and many lessons still to learn”!
Saturn is also referred to as The Lord of Karma and the Lord of Time. Nothing happens in our life until Saturn says so! It pays to befriend Saturn! His transit around our personal horoscope is the determining factor for the right and appropriate timing for new learning experiences and further advancement up the spiritual mountain on the journey to ascension and higher consciousness.
Good luck with your Saturn in Virgo transit.
